A Look at Mosaic

So I wasn't able to watch very much, but what I was able to look at of HBO's Mosaic and reading up on it leads me to already love it. As a fan of interactive media and mysteries, I find this approach to be very enjoyable and immersive.

I started on my iPhone, but quickly switched to desktop. The idea of being able to watch scenes from multiple points of view and read extra information while watching is something I love, and reminds me of alternate reality games and narrative-based video games. Being a fan of both Life is Strange and MarbleHornets meant I immediately fell in love with this format. As a person who enjoys writing and seeks full immersion in my media, the options and supplementary resources proved to enhance the experience I've had so far. Looking at the discoveries helped me better understand the world, much in the same way reading a Star Wars novel helps me understand its world. It builds off of what I'm already familiar with and adds detail that sparks the avid world-builder in me.

I'm not surprised that media is taking this format now, as the media I said it reminded me of earlier uses similar elements. As we grow as a society, we seek more and more immersion in our media so it can become more alive. This kind of media absolutely accomplishes that, and makes me want more. I absolutely intend on finishing this series, and want more like it!

Overall, this is a wonderful concept well executed. I can't wait to finish it, and to then get more like it!

Storyboards a Plenty

Working on a storyboard has helped me appreciate them more. Originally, I thought it was a bit of a waste of time. If they were doodles and not decently more detailed, I would've understood them, but for years I thought storyboards had too much detail to the point that its original purpose was a little lost. However, having made this one, I totally see why there's still a fair amount of detail in a storyboard. Without those tiny details, a scene can't truly come to life, so they are necessary. I think working on this was great for giving me a better perspective on the purpose a storyboard serves, and I would gladly do one again, knowing now how helpful they actually are.

Hi-llo! Welcome to my Blog!

So first, if you haven't seen my YouTube intro video, here ya go: If you have, hi! Again, my name is Harrison Jones, and I am currently majoring in Integrated Digital Media and Game Design. I decided to major in this area because I love creating media using a computer. When I was younger I created videos in Movie Maker using footage I recorded with a cheap little camera and uploaded them to YouTube. Having spent my whole life watching videos, creating and sharing Photoshop edits, and playing video games while dabbling a very small bit in modding, I realized the only natural place to go from there is to focus on these aspects for a career. While I will admit I don't use them enough, I do enjoy playing around with a variety of tools, and I hope my classes will allow me to learn even more about them than I would on my own. As for what job I see myself working, I expect I will take a normal IT job at first since it will be easy to find one. However, I intend to one day work ...

Snowman vs. Stickman: A Battle for the Ages!

So I made an animation for the first time, and it's actually really cool! I've never made a gif before, and never knew how easy it was with online resources! Drawing each frame and compiling them, I thought it would look much worse than it does, but it actually looks really good. I realize now how animation, while it can be an extreme challenge if you want extremely smooth animation, can be an easy field to start getting into. While it takes a while to get really great at it, the fact that you can get into it at such a low level encourages me to try it some more. Overall, this project served as huge motivation for me, and I'm glad I got to do it!
